March 30, 2009 Announcements

HP is revamping blade servers with new processors and technology to help you make the most of your data center.

HP is announcing three blade servers featuring the new Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series with Intel QuickPath Architecture. They include:

HP ProLiant BL280c server blade G6 – Created to support the growing High Performance Computing Market, the BL280c offers outstanding performance per watt to help reduce overall datacenter maintenance spending, supports SAS, SATA and SSD drives for a wide variety of internal storage options. It boasts a large memory footprint with up to 96GB of the new, power efficient DDR3 memory.

We’ve revamped our most popular blade, the HP ProLiant BL460c G6 server blade. It uses 15% less power while delivering up to 50% more performance than the prior generation1. We’ve made everything faster so you can do more in it’s dense half-height blade footprint: Memory capacity has increased 50%, the onboard storage controller has doubled in speed, and integrated NICs have increased bandwidth 10 fold.

The HP ProLiant BL490c G6 server blade is designed specifically to reduce costs for medium- to large scale virtualization projects, running VMWare ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer. This blade packs the most memory into any half-height server blade in the industry, removing the biggest bottleneck to fitting more virtual machines onto a server. The embedded Flex-10 capable controllers also mean this server blade offers up to 8 integrated FlexNICs, giving your hypervisors the network reach that high-performance virtualization demands.

New models of the BladeSystem c7000 enclosure are also being announced. These new models provide greater power efficiency with the 80Plus Gold Certified HP 2400W PSU as standard as well as reduced packing and ease of ordering. By increasing the number of fans and power supplies in the enclosure, fewer options need to be ordered resulting in fewer boxes shipped, reducing the environmental impact. Also included as standard is the new HP Onboard Administrator with KVM that allows direct connection of the enclosure to and existing KVM network.

BL460c G6: 4379 watts; BL460c G5: 5126 watts.
