Overview

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software Suite

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA is a comprehensive software suite designed to simplify management of the high-performance HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family of array products. HP Command View EVA provides a powerfully simple storage management experience when compared to traditional storage array management. The software helps automate and aggregate storage so you have fewer steps to think about and fewer things to manage. HP Command View EVA provides systems and storage administrators simplicity without compromise and the industry's easiest approach to array management.

HP Command View EVA's intuitive user interface simplifies the expansion and shrinking of capacity (LUNs) online; you can configure LUNs and RAID groups with a few mouse clicks and you can easily add physical disks online to accommodate changing capacity needs without compromising application downtime and without a big storage administrative staff.

For visualizing the big SAN picture, reducing SAN complexity and improving overall storage efficiency take advantage of HP Storage Essentials Software for managing EVA with SAN infrastructure. HP Standard Edition SRM (Storage Resource Management) Software, now included with EVA solutions, helps midsize businesses with small to medium HP storage-based SANs affordably gain control of their SAN inventory. The HP Storage Essentials Suite assists medium to large IT enterprises with simplifying management of heterogeneous multi vendor SAN infrastructure. HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) alone is an effective unified infrastructure management tool. When HP SIM is used in conjunction with HP Command EVA software and HP Essentials plug-ins, it becomes a comprehensive, easy-to-use platform that enables organizations to holistically control their server and storage environments from a single secure, web-based interface.

HP Command View EVA complements the EVA family, from Small-Medium-Business to enterprise class. It offers storage administrators a scaleable storage management software solution that offers agility and growth so you have the right amount of storage to meet your business and user needs. With the HP Command View EVA software suite, you can centrally manage and configure EVA from a single management console, provision storage instantly for immediate capacity use or easily create RAID groups for tiered storage applications from an available pool of capacity. You can replicate data instantly for backup on demand, secure storage volumes (LUNs) against unauthorized host access and create powerful scripts to document and automate tasks.
With HP Command View EVAPerf performance monitoring software, a member of the HP Command View EVA software suite, you can improve your quality of service (QoS) for application uptime and user satisfaction by monitoring performance levels and reducing time to resolution when incidents occur. This powerful tool allows you to observe a variety of EVA performance metrics and best of all, the software is free with the HP Command View EVA software suite.

To maintain EVA uptime, you can take advantage of HP's Web Based Enterprise Services (WEBES) and Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE) software tools for hardware fault detection, analysis and notification on Integrity, ProLiant and Alpha-based servers along with the Enterprise Virtual Array. These tools are shipped with the HP Command View EVA software suite. WEBES also communicates with proactive remote services using HP ISEE and HP Solutions support for 24X7 availability service to provide around the clock remote monitoring--phone home services.

License to use (LTU)
NOTES:

  1. An HP Command View License-to-Use (LTU) must be purchased for each EVA controller pair. Each HP EVA must be licensed with the appropriate HP Command View LTU(s) to be in compliance with the End User License Agreement (EULA). The licensed capacity per EVA must be equal to, or greater than the total raw capacity of each EVA. HP Command View EVA may be purchased in increments of a 1TB LTU, or an HP Command View Unlimited Capacity LTU may be purchased which will support up to the maximum raw storage capacity of the EVA. If you already have HP Command View EVA 1TB LTU(s) and desire to upgrade to an Unlimited license, that option is available as an Upgrade to Unlimited LTU.
  2. The Licenses listed below are non transferable from one EVA to another.
  3. Licenses include 1-year 24X7 support. Installation and Startup is not included.
  4. Unlimited LTUs for EVA 3000 and EVA 5000 are no longer offered. Customers can continue to purchase the 1TB and Upgrade to Unlimited Licenses.
  5. All licenses are available for either E-Delivery or as regular paper licenses.
  6. Licenses obtained through the Not-For-Resale (NFR) program, temporary licenses, loaner licenses, Instant-on or any other license at no charge are provided strictly for evaluation and demonstration use, and are not for use for data in place upgrades. These licenses do not include support services, may or may not include product documentation, must adhere to all terms, conditions and time limits.

Software Licensing FAQs
What is the Licensing Methodology for HP Command View EVA v8.0, and how do I get my licenses?

Use the Command View EVA v8.0 licensing if you are deploying a new EVA based SAN with at least one new EVA, or you are a direct connect Windows server configuration with at least one new EVA or adding new EVA capacity. In either case, Command View EVA is running on the Windows server to manage EVA. HP Command View EVA v8.0 software licenses are based on terabytes (TB) of raw EVA storage capacity and must be assigned on a per individual EVA basis. Capacity calculation is equal to the raw disk capacity based on binary numbers (1 TB = 1024 GB) of each managed EVA. The License-to-Use (LTUs) for HP Command View EVA is available in either 1 TB LTU increments or an Unlimited capacity use per EVA LTU based on the license product number that is purchased. The product comes with CD media, documentation; 1-year 24X7 software support is included in the license to use (LTU) for the base configuration. You are required to select either one, or multiples of 1 TB 'license products' or an Unlimited Capacity Use per EVA license based on each EVA model purchased. The single 1 TB licenses may be upgraded at any time with an Upgrade to Unlimited Capacity Use per EVA product number.

When the LTUs are ordered, you will receive a paper End User License Agreement (EULA) with the applicable capacity-based license.

How do the per EVA capacity-based licensing tiers work?HP Command View EVA 8.0 licensing tiers consists of three (3) license tiers for each EVA model. You can use EVA3000 and EVA4000 licenses interchangeably as well as EVA5000 and EVA8000 licenses interchangeably, but EVA6000 licenses are only for the EVA6000, as are EVA 4400 licenses. 1 TB, Unlimited Capacity Use per EVA, or Upgrade to Unlimited Capacity Use per EVA is available. You can combine any number of single 1 TB LTUs to achieve the required licensed capacity or choose an Unlimited Capacity Use per EVA license. For example, you can combine three 1 TB LTUs for an EVA4000, or choose to purchase an Unlimited Capacity Use per EVA license. You may always order an Upgrade to Unlimited Capacity Use per EVA later, if desired.
NOTE: Capacity-based Licensing is by controller pair. For example for a 2C1D only order 1 copy of the software media kit and the appropriate LTU. If ordering an 8C8D for example, order 1 copy of the software and order the appropriate capacity LTU required for each EVA controller pair; in this example totaling 4 LTUs.

How do I purchase a license for a new EVA based SAN, and what happens if my capacity is expanded in the base configuration? For example, if your new configuration is comprised of an EVA8000 with 3 TB of capacity, then you need to purchase the Media Kit, and three EVA8000 1 TB LTUs. You can also purchase an Unlimited Capacity use per EVA LTU instead of the (3) 1 TB LTUs. That decision depends on your EVA future capacity growth plans. As the capacity in the EVA grows, additional EVA8000 1 TB LTUs can be purchased to accommodate the extra capacity growth, or you could choose to order the Upgrade to Unlimited Capacity Use per EVA LTU for that array. If you add another EVA8000 into your configuration, you are required to purchase separate LTUs for that specific EVA - again either in combined 1 TB LTUs or an Unlimited Capacity Use per EVA. Refer to the Model section of this QuickSpec for applicable part numbers.
