HP File Archiving software (HP FAs) helps reduce information management costs-and increase storage efficiency-by automatically migrating aged and less accessed data from Microsoft Windows-based storage systems into a choice of target archives, including HP Integrated Archiving Platform (IAP).

• Helps reduce costs of storage and storage management - automatically migrates static data to an archive based on business policies and quality of service requirements, and releases (stubs) the file on primary storage
• Faster backup and recovery - HP File Archiving software enables you to migrate inactive files to an archive. A sparse file remains as a pointer to migrated data, and it is a minute fraction of the size of the original file. Less data volume to manage on primary storage translates into faster backup of primary storage and potentially faster restore.
• Ease of management - HP File Archiving software helps ease the backup effort and infrastructure management effort required to protect large scale file serving, web server, and application server environments
• Business agility - HP File Archiving software enables customers to redeploy storage and storage management resources once static files have been migrated off the system

HP File Archiving software version 2.2 has been tested and supported with following target archive destination

• HP Integrated Archiving Platform version 1.4.x, 1.5.0.3, 1.5.04, 1.6 and 1.6.1
  
• CIFS Based NAS Appliance that supports Windows 2003 Storage Server
  
• HP File System Extender version 3.4

NOTE: When archiving into HP IAP, the maximum file size transfer limitation supported by HP File Archiving software is 1.4 GB.
NOTE: HP File Archiving software is storage agnostic. If disk storage is supported by the OS platform shown in the support OS above, then it is supported by FAs.
NOTE: HP File Archiving software does not support HP Cluster Gateway NAS system
NOTE: HP also supports File Archiving software migrating files from a FAs-managed volume to a CIFS share configured on the same system as the FAs-managed volume. It is recommended that backups be done regularly if you choose to configure your FAs archive as a local CIFS share.

Server Virtualization

HP File Archiving software version 2.2 supports VMware Server 1.04 on the supported Operating Systems, listed above.

HP File Archiving software supports multi-pathing software to EVA, MSA, & XP disk arrays.

One LTU is required for each stand-alone server running File Archiving software.
In a Microsoft Cluster Server environment, one LTU is required for each node in the cluster.
Additional licenses will depend on following factors:

1. The number of additional Windows file, web, or application servers to be managed by HP File Archiving software;
   
2. Whether these additional servers are deployed within a Microsoft Cluster Server environment;
   
3. Whether the target archive is non-HP storage hardware.
   

There is no storage capacity license for HP File Archiving software when archiving to HP hardware, such as HP Integrated Archiving Platform or HP FSE, or HP ProLiant Storage Server NAS.

The storage capacity license when archiving to non-HP hardware (e.g. EMC disk) is based on three tiers:

1. 100 GB to 1 TB, priced per 100 GB;
   
2. 1 TB to 20 TB, priced per TB;
   
3. 20 TB+, priced per TB.
   

An HP File Archiving Platform server license for non-HP hardware includes up to 100 GB of storage migration capacity.

The license for storage capacity is the sum of the capacity of files migrated off the file system(s) managed by HP File Migration Agent. For licensing purposes, archiving to multiple target archives has no bearing on the license for storage capacity, because the license is based on source volumes, and not target.
NOTE: HP File Archiving software 2.2 includes HP AutoPass 5.2 to help manage software licensing.
