Overview

SRM Database Viewer module is optional software plug-in that extends HP Storage Essentials SRM suite with extensive application-to-spindle visualization and management of Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server and InterSystems Caché databases. With its powerful capacity, performance and dependency management capabilities, SRM Database Viewer helps improve the availability and performance of databases and applications in SAN environments. SRM Database Viewer automatically discovers Oracle databases, tablespaces and files; Sybase databases, devices and files; and MS SQL Server and InterSystems Caché databases, file groups and files; and graphically depicts their dependencies on the SAN. The path that each database element takes through mount points, host servers, volume management software, HBAs, fabric switches and storage systems is represented in a single, integrated view. These powerful path management capabilities, combined with real-time performance monitoring features, enable you to predict the impact of planned and unplanned SAN downtime on database applications and determine where in the SAN "stack" performance is affected.

Features

Discovery and SAN dependency management

• Discovers Oraclem MS SQL, Sybase and InterSystems Cache databases, tablespaces, and files
• Correlates dependencies on host mount points, volume managers, servers, HBAs, fabric switches, and storage systems

Application Explorer with topology visualization

• Renders the storage topology from the perspective of the Database, and shows all of the SAN resources in the database "supply chain" (e.g. Oracle tablespaces, Oracle database files, host mount points, volume management software, host, HBA port, switch port from host, ISLs, switch port to storage system, and storage system volumes and disks).
• Identifies failover and load balancing relationships and redundant paths

Capacity management

• View Total Capacity, Total Used, Percent Used, and Available for all database instances, devices, and database files
• "In context" capacity views for all dependent SAN resources (host servers, fabric switches, storage systems)
• Historical trend charts with customizable start and end dates and hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly snapshots
• Trend extrapolation for capacity planning

Performance monitoring with SmartGuideTM technology

• Real-time monitoring of key database counters, including Buffer Hit Ratio; Parse CPU to Total CPU Ratio; Dictionary Hit Ratio; In Memory Sort Ratio; File Write, Read, and Total I/O Percent; Library Cache Hit Ratio; Redo Buffer Allocation Retries Ratio; Redo Logspace Request Ratio; System Event Time Waited; Tablespace Write, Read, and Total I/O Percent
• Real-time monitoring of dependent SAN resources; SmartGuide technology filters out hosts, HBA ports, switch ports, and storage system ports that are not relevant to the selected database path
• Performance measurement views enable administrators to simultaneously display traffic and utilization charts that monitor individual statistics for every element in the database path
• Historical trending and trend extrapolation of all supported database and SAN resource counters
