Q1. Is Data Protector Software supported by any backup reporting solutions for advanced backup job monitoring and analysis?
A1. Yes. HP Storage Essentials, HP’s industry-leading SAN management and storage resource management (SRM) product family, offers support for Data Protector Software, resulting in a powerful solution to monitor the overall status of the backup process as well as to visualize backup configuration and recoverability.
Q2. Does Data Protector also provide archiving capabilities for unstructured file system data, e-mail, and databases?
A2. Archiving capabilities are available through the HP Integrated Archive Platform (IAP), HP Email Archiving software, HP Database Archiving software, HP File Archiving software and HP Medical Archive solution, all related applications to HP Data Protector Software in the growing HP storage Software portfolio.
Q3. Do I need a license migration from previous Data Protector Software versions to 6.0?
A3. No license migration is required. Regarding technical migration, Data Protector Software customers on support contract will receive Data Protector Software 6.0 for free. Once they upgrade their environment, the functionality that they were using with previous Data Protector Software versions will be available at no additional cost. Customers would need to purchase new licenses only in case that they want to acquire new functionality added with version 6.0. With Data Protector Software 5.5 an automated technical migration process from all previous Data Protector Software versions is provided.
Q4. How long will Data Protector Software versions be supported?
A4. Full HP support for Data Protector Software 5.0 was ended on August 31, 2006; maintenance is no longer offered. Additionally, self-help support (formerly known as knowledge base support) for Data Protector Software 5.0 will be available through August 31, 2007.

Full HP support for Data Protector Software 5.1 was ended on August 31, 2007; with maintenance support available through February 28, 2008. Additionally, self-help support (formerly known as knowledge base support) for Data Protector Software 5.1 will be available through August 31, 2008.

Full HP support for Data Protector Software 5.5 (incl. Data Protector Media Operations Software 5.5) is scheduled to end on Oct 31, 2009 . Additionally, self-help support (formerly known as knowledge base support) for Data Protector Software 5.5 will be available through October 31, 2011.

Full support for Media Operations 3.00, 3.01 and 3.02 is scheduled to end on August 31, 2007; with maintenance support only for Media Operations 3.00, 3.01 and 3.02 available through February 28, 2008. Additionally, self-help support (formerly known as knowledge base support) for Media Operations 3.00, 3.01 and 3.02 will be available through August 31, 2008.
