Unmanaged data can subject businesses to the "ripple" effect, which causes application performance degradation, difficulty moving data across tiers, increasing recovery times for failures, barriers to IT consolidations, multiple environments that replicate data, and increasing numbers of mission-critical databases.

HP Database Archiving software manages accelerating data growth, moving inactive data from production databases to accessible online or long-term archival stores. Enterprises benefit by improving performance and availability, enabling compliance and e-discovery initiatives, and lowering infrastructure and administrative costs. HP Database Archiving software relocates complete transactions, including requisite master and reference data, to secondary archive databases, XML formats or both in combination as dictated by business rules and policies. This provides a full lifecycle approach for both the applications and data. A spectrum of data movement techniques are provided to best match with production data volume requirements. Archive access is achieved using standard SQL reporting, enterprise reporting tools or native application interfaces. Advanced capabilities include Combined Reporting™ which provides the ability to report across both current and archive data. XML archived data is stored in non-proprietary format for independence from the original source application. Data will be accessible and meet compliance requirements far into the future with no dependency on the original source application or database.

Modules

HP Database Archiving software is comprised of the following integrated set of components:
  Designer - provides a visual interface to rapidly model transactions and define archive business rules and policies. Business analysts and domain experts save critical time and effort because they can iteratively model and test archive business rules against production data.
  Data Movement - ensures that data relocation (copies and deletes) accommodate the required data volumes while retaining application integrity during archive cycles. HP Database archiving software utilizes native database integration for maximum scalability and integrity.
  Archive Access - provides the ability to access archive data leveraging existing enterprise reporting tools and/or native application access, minimizing end-user re-training. Combined Reporting™ provides the ability to query current and archive data in a single report.
  Job Engine - automates all archiving tasks in a single job run to fit into data center operations, including built-in recovery and restart capabilities.
  Management Console - provides system configuration, job monitoring, job launching and audit trail capabilities.
