Organizations are struggling with explosive email growth. Today 85% of business communications occur through email, and over 3,500,000 TB of business messages are sent yearly. This flood of email creates enormous challenges for organizations with complex Microsoft Exchange environments. Storage managers must contain spiraling mailbox management and storage costs. Corporate attorneys must cost-effectively search and retrieve email for legal discovery and regulatory compliance. Exchange administrators must cope with availability and performance degradation while storage congestion increases. Business users spend time cleaning inboxes to stay within quotas.

HP Email Archiving software for Microsoft Exchange integrates with HP IAP to manage legal discovery, corporate governance, and compliance requirements risks, while reducing email storage costs and optimizing server performance and availability.

Answers

Q1. What is HP Email Archiving software for Microsoft Exchange?
A1.

HP Email Archiving Software for Microsoft Exchange archives messages and attachments onto the HP IAP, a high-performance integrated archive storage platform to reduce storage costs, ease mailbox management, simplify e-discovery, and facilitate regulatory requirements.

It is an Information Management solution that comes in two versions, Compliance Archiving module, and the Selective Archiving module, and enables you to preserve your MS Exchange email in a single, scalable repository while maximizing the performance of the Exchange Server, deferring capital expenditures on new primary storage and server systems, and reducing the size of Exchange backup and recovery, accelerating both in the process.

Q2. What is new in HP Email Archiving software for Microsoft Exchange 2.0?
A2.

New features in HP Email Archiving software for Microsoft Exchange 2.0 are:

  • Multiple Object Archiving (Calendars, Tasks, Notes, etc.)
  • Outlook Integrated Archive Search
  • Folder Capture Support
  • Quota Archive Thresholds
  • Name change from HP Reference Information Manager for Exchange to HP Email Archiving software for Microsoft Exchange with updates to software, User/Admin interface, and documentation to reflect new name.
Q3. What is Multiple Object Archiving?
A3.

Multiple Object Archiving means that the solution is capable of archiving an assortment of email objects including calendars, documents, public folders, and standard messages. HP EAs Exchange 2.0 supports multiple object archiving, including support for the following message class types:

  • Calendars (IPM.Appointment) (Only after expiration)
  • Documents (IPM.Document)
  • Public Folder messages (IPM.Post)
  • Standard messages (IPM.Note)
  • Tasks (IPM.Task) (Only after complete) (461)
Q4. What is Folder Capture Support?
A4. Folder Capture Support is a new feature where mailbox folder meta-data is preserved and archived. It has the capability to track multiple messages that may exist in many mailboxes, and each of them can have a distinct folder. It also allows search and restore of email to the user’s original, familiar folder structure providing enhanced portability and availability.
Q5. What is the Outlook Integrated Archive Search?
A5. This exciting new feature, Outlook Integrated Archive Search, allows users seamless access to email securely stored in the Integrated Archive Platform (IAP) directly from the Microsoft Outlook application. Using native Microsoft UI look and feel, user access is transparent requiring little if any training to use this effortless, powerful information access tool. Leveraging the new "Quota Archive Threshold" feature provides a true "infinite mailbox" virtually eliminating mailbox management and increasing user productivity and fast access to information.
Q6. What are Quota Archive Thresholds?
A6. Quota Archive Threshold helps systems administrators manage end user mailbox volumes, thereby optimizing the Exchange environment and user experience. This "set it and forget it" Exchange management strategy is policy based and only runs if a mailbox quota is over a certain percentage, or Upper Threshold. The time selectable policy will then rank the messages, with selectable filtering criteria, and archive them to a Lower Threshold. This feature not only streamlines Exchange management and administration, but when used in concert with the new Outlook Integrated Archive Search, users will experience what looks like an "infinite mailbox" and enjoy significant gains in productivity.
Q7. What support does HP EAs for Exchange 2.0 offer for Exchange 2007 and its client applications?
A7. HP EAs for Exchange 2.0 fully supports Exchange 2007 in the available Compliance and Selective Archiving modules with OWA 2007 support planned in a future update. Contact your HP account manager for more details.
Q8. What version of IAP software is needed to support HP EAs for Exchange 2.0?
A8. The HP Integrated Archive Platform 2.0 (HP IAP) has a number of key enhancements required to support the new release of HP EAs for Exchange 2.0 which is currently available for new shipments and upgrades to existing deployments.
Q9. How long does it take to upgrade to HP EAs for Exchange 2.0?
A9.

HP EAs for Exchange 2.0 requires an existing IAP deployment (previously called HP RISS) to be upgraded to version 2.0 and needs to be completed prior to upgrading to EAs for Exchange 2.0.

For specific details regarding upgrades to your existing IAP system and EAs for Exchange configuration please contact your account team to consult with HP Software Professional Services.

A10. The upgrade will require the IAP to be taken offline and HP PSO will work with you to plan for the upgrade to ensure minimal impact to your operation
Q11. What are the hardware support requirements to upgrade to HP EAs for Exchange 2.0?
A11.
