Answers

Q1. Why would I purchase HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software for HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays units?
A1. The HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software suite is required to manage at least one EVA. It provides centralized management, provisioning, health monitoring and control of EVA in a SAN.
Q2. What is included in the box with HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software v8.0?
A2. HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software v8.0 contains the software, user documentation, and software providers, for example SMI-S EVA v6.0 provider, necessary to manage a HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array. The box includes seven CDs with documentation, software executables and installation instructions. One CD (HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software, SMI-S EVA 6.0 provider, HP Storage System Scripting Utility Software), one CD (HP StorageWorks Command View EVAPerf Software v1.2), one CD (HP StorageWorks Command View EVA documentation), one CD (HP Systems Tool for Instant Support Enterprise Edition and WEBES), one CD (RSM v4.0 server), one CD(RSM v4.0 host agents), one CD (RSM documentation).
Q3. Will HP Systems Insight Manager software support HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software and the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array?
A3. Yes, in fact, HP Systems Insight Manager ships free with each EVA to facilitate centralized unified server and storage management. With HP Systems Insight Manager and HP Command View EVA Software suite, you can manage EVA arrays with heterogeneous networked SAN storage devices for centralized provisioning, monitoring and event management across the SAN.
Q4. Now that HP OpenView Storage Operation Manager is discontinued, how can I get the same capability with Command View EVA Software suite?
A4. That’s easy, with each Enterprise Virtual Array HP includes free HP Systems Insight Manager software. So when you combine HP Systems Insight Manager and Command View EVA Software you generally have the same capability that HP OpenView Storage Operations Manager offered with the added benefit of unified server and storage management.
Q5. If I want advanced storage resource management (SRM) tools to improve my SAN operational efficiency and improve my quality of service levels in the SAN with HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array, how can I do that?
A5. HP Storage Essentials provides advanced storage resource management software tools that provide extensive SAN software capability for example heterogeneous SAN device discovery, provisioning, reporting, asset management, capacity planning and application integration with Oracle, Sybase and Microsoft Exchange to name a few. When you combine HP Storage Essentials Software, HP Systems Insight Manager and HP Command View EVA software you have an integrated, centralized management solution working together to simplify management, reduce complexity and significantly lower management costs.
Q6. Can I manage both Fibre Channel and iSCSI hosts using HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software?
A6. Yes, with the iSCSI Connectivity Option, you can manage both Fibre Channel and iSCSI hosts using HP Command View EVA software to perform provisioning, discover hosts and day to day configuration management. With this capability, customers can maintain their existing infrastructure investment with enjoying the flexibility to choose the best connectivity solution to meet IT business needs.
Q7. Does HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software interoperate with Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM)?
A7. Yes, you can take advantage of the HP Server Management Packs for MOM 2005 available on HP.com as a no cost software download. Customers using Microsoft MOM can extend management to the Windows management/server especially if an HP ProLiant server is used to manage HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array units. HP delivers management packs that complement and extend Microsoft Operations Manager 2005, integrating alert processing, state monitoring, and hardware resource lifecycle management for HP ProLiant and Integrity servers.
Q8. Do you still need hardware-based device managers with HP Standard Edition SRM Software?
A8. Yes, HP Standard Edition SRM Software does not replace hardware-based device managers; for example HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software, but complements them with an efficient broader integrated tool set to manage a complete EVA and infrastructure ecosystem from a single, secure WEB-based unified server and storage management interface.
Q9. How will HP position HP Standard Edition SRM Software with all the software management products in the StorageWorks portfolio and software stack?
A9. The HP StorageWorks storage solutions portfolio is the broadest in the industry, and HP storage management products scale from SMB to enterprise at price points from free to a` la carte pricing and can be customized to meet SMB to heterogeneous business needs. HP Standard Edition SRM Software reduces SAN complexity by providing EVA storage administrators or IT staff with an automated and affordable big picture SRM software tool to manage Windows and Linux servers and HP EVA with HP MSA, HP Tape, HP NAS, HBAs, servers and switches all from a single, secure Web-based unified server and storage management platform.
Q10. What is the value that HP Storage Essentials SRM Software brings to EVA and Command View EVA?
A10. Standard Edition SRM Software is an affordable solution that optimizes SAN capacity, increases IT staff efficiency and simplifies end-to-end troubleshooting and reporting. With a unified SRM solution, one administrator can manage far more EVA SAN storage. It lets you visually monitor EVA and SAN infrastructure topology, zones and health status from a single interface. It monitors performance for troubleshooting bottlenecks, tracks real-time performance metrics and provides historical trends and capacity planning—all things that you need people to do today.

From a single, Web-based, secure console you can configure your storage environment and monitor file system utilization to reclaim wasted space and facilitate file server availability. Now IT can obtain a holistic view of storage from an application level with Oracle, SQL, Sybase and MS Exchange for fast problem resolution. Centralized event and performance management with historical and future trending brings additional benefits too. You have one interface for SAN and NAS management and with optional software plug-ins you can monitor status of the entire backup process.

Q11. What is the policy and use of upgrade licenses?
A11. 1) Only HP Command View Unlimited LTUs can be upgraded between HP EVA models.
2) For HP EVA's with HP Command View 1TB LTU's, they must first be upgrade to an Unlimited LTU prior to upgrading between EVA models.
3) HP Command View LTUs are non-transferable between EVA models as they are model specific. All HP EVA model upgrades require a new HP Command View LTU.
4) Upgrades are considered when the current EVA system is either 1) being decommissioned or 2) data in place upgrade.
