Answers

Q1. Is HP XP Command View Advanced Edition Software a required product purchase with a new HP XP Disk Array?
A1. No it is not a required purchase. If you just require basic array device management you can effectively use Remote Web Console, a device manager that ships free with each array. HP XP Command View AE can easily be used together with Remote Web Console with a single click within the GUI screen.
Q2. How do I know if I need HP XP Command View Advanced Edition Software or if I can get by with Remote Web Console?
A2. If you manage a small number of XP disk arrays, you can manage your HP XP Disk Arrays with Remote Web Console, which is shipped free on the XP SVP (service processor). However, if you need to manage several XP Disk Arrays from a single console, or if you require the advanced functionality of the plug-ins (HP XP Replication Monitor Software, HP XP Provisioning Manager Software, and HP XP Tiered Storage Manager Software) you will need to purchase HP XP Command View AE.
Q3. How do I choose between HP XP Command View Advanced Edition Software and HP Storage Essentials Software?
A3. HP XP Command View Advanced Edition Software allows you to manage many HP XP Disk Arrays from a single screen, provides a command line interface, and also delivers enhanced functionality through its plug-ins (HP XP Replication Monitor Software, HP XP Provisioning Manager Software, and HP XP Tiered Storage Manager Software). Choose HP Storage Essentials Software if you have a complicated SAN environment and need to manage a wide variety of SAN components in addition to HP XP Disk Arrays.
Q4. How is HP XP Command View Advanced Edition Software licensed?
A4. For the HP XP24000 Disk Array, HP XP Command View Advanced Edition Software licensing is based on the raw storage capacity of the disk array.  External storage capacity coverage is included at no extra cost.

For the HP XP20000 Disk Array, HP XP Command View Advanced Edition Software provides a frame-based license. One license covers all disk array capacity.

For the HP XP12000 Disk Array, HP XP Command View Advanced Edition Software licensing is based on the raw storage capacity of the disk array plus the configured usable capacity of any External Storage volumes attached to the disk array.  There are special reduced cost HP XP Command View AE licenses to cover external storage capacity.

For the HP XP10000 Disk Array a frame unlimited license is available.

Q5. What is the HP XP Command View AE CLI SMI-S License?
A5. This product provides the HP XP Command View AE CLI and SMI-S functionality at an attractive price. The CLI is used to enable task automation and the SMI-S Provider enables integration into SRM software.

The HP XP Command View AE CLI SMI-S License supports XP12000, XP10000, XP1024, XP128, XP512, and XP48 Disk Arrays. The XP24000 and XP20000 Disk Arrays provide the CLI and SMI-S functionality in the HP XP Array Manager Software product.
