| Q1. |
What are the benefits of using Replication Solutions Manager (RSM) with HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA Software? |
| A1. |
HP Replication Solutions Manager integrates both local and remote replication into a brilliantly simple to use GUI and CLUI. RSM removes almost all of the complexity of configuring and managing replication environments through easy to use wizards and automation of common tasks. In addition, RSM now includes an Interactive Replication Topology Viewer that provides a customizable picture while providing the flexibility of executing tasks directly from the displayed objects. |

| Q2. |
Can I now deploy HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA Software on a general purpose Windows server? |
| A2. |
Yes, with HP StorageWorks Continuous Access, you now have choice on how you want to deploy EVA software applications. For example, you can deploy the software on a dedicated general purpose Windows server in the SAN. See the Continuous Access QuickSpecs for specific Widows OS versions that are supported. |
 |
| Q3. |
What EVA arrays does HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA support? |
| A3. |
Continuous Access EVA supports the full EVA product line. Replication Solutions Manager included in the Continuous Access Media kits will also support all other models of the EVA array family. |
 |
| Q4. |
Can one transfer HP Continuous Access EVA Software license between EVA’s? |
| A4. |
No, the license rules have not been changed and licenses are non-transferable. Each license purchased is specifically for that model and array. Options are available when upgrading a licensed array to a new model.
|
 |
| Q5. |
Over what distance can I replicate my data? |
| A5. |
HP Continuous Access EVA supports many configurations and distances. Since there are many factors which affect the solutions such as RPO/RTO objectives, bandwidth and data volume, please consult with your sales professional to evaluate the solution. |
 |
| Q6. |
My customer is asking for one-to-many relationships. When can we expect to see this solution be available? |
| A6. |
Continuous Access EVA currently supports multiple relationships and fan-in or fan-out is supported between mixed arrays. Any single array can have up to two relationships with any other array. One to many relationships is planned for a subsequent release. |
 |
| Q7. |
Does Continuous Access EVA support asynchronous replication? |
| A7. |
Continuous Access fully supports both synchronous and asynchronous replication technologies. Since there are many factors that influence asynchronous performance, some implementations may require a pre-assessment to ensure that customer’s expectations are met. With the Enhanced Asynchronous, buffer-to-disk the amount of supported configurations has greatly increased. |
 |
| Q8. |
What if I upgrade from an EVA3000 or EVA5000 to the EVA4000/6000/8000 series models? |
| A8. |
In addition to the changes required at the controller level, you will need to purchase the appropriate upgrade license for the EVA4000/6000/8000 series Continuous Access EVA licenses based on the amount of data being replicated. Upgrades can only be done with either a data-in-place array upgrade or when the original array is being decommissioned. |
 |
| Q9. |
Can I now control local replication tasks through Replication Solutions Manager (RSM) GUI? |
| A9. |
Yes, with the new RSM interface you can control the full local replication functions. RSM is a common replication management interface for both Business Copy EVA and Continuous Access EVA. |
 |
| Q10. |
If RSM can manage local replication too, do I need to purchase HP StorageWorks Business Copy EVA? |
| A10. |
It is not mandatory to purchase Business Copy EVA when using RSM. However, if you do not have a Business Copy EVA LTU installed, local replication features will not be available through RSM, or via any other means. It is recommended that Business Copy EVA be purchased in conjunction with Continuous Access EVA to take full advantage of the many benefits that the combination provides. |
 |
| Q11. |
Can I replicate between different EVA models? |
| A11. |
Yes, Continuous Access EVA can replicate data between the EVA 4000/6000/8000 series. A Continuous Access license (LTU) for the proper capacity must be installed on each system. Enhanced asynchronous replication is supported between EVA 4000/6000/8000 series models. |
