The D2D2Any feature extends the capability of D2D backups by allowing disk backups (or backups on other media) to be moved or copied from disk to other media such as tape for longer term retention. Data encryption means backup media can be safely taken off site because the media is unreadable by a third party. The Bare Metal Disaster Recovery Option automates system recovery after a serious hardware or software failure. Self-tuning parallel data streams allow multiple jobs to run concurrently for faster backups. Online backup agents are available for Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange.

What's new

• Enhanced D2D2Any option capabilities. The backup job and the job to copy the backup to a tertiary media are specified as a single job. This allows simple and automated multi-tier backups for extended data protection.
• The Data Protector Express Kit for the D2D Backup System has additional 'copy to tape' capabilities with the enhanced D2D2Any option now included in the kit. This simplifies the D2D Backup System solution for customers wanting the speed of disk based file recovery plus the low cost and durability of tape backup.
• Multiple usability enhancements have been added to Data Protector Express for use with the HP StorageWorks MSL2024, MSL4048 and MSL8096 tape libraries. For users needing the capacity of these tape libraries for their backup data, Data Protector Express is now an easier choice.
• New 'Daily Append' rotation scheme added to pre-configured rotation schemes. This is designed to allow organizations with smaller data volumes to use just one tape for one week of backups - one full and 4 incremental - while providing the capability to offsite tapes and recover multiple versions of the backup data.

It does not require extensive training or specialist personnel. Interaction is via a Windows-like, customizable GUI with Wizards for most frequently run tasks.

This means that if a tape is lost in transit it is safe because third parties cannot access the data on the tape. Data encryption is also supported to other media. Additionally support is delivered for HP tape drives with built-in data encryption.
• High performance: The Data Protector Express architecture delivers high performance. Multiple media servers can be deployed so the backup server or network is not a throughput bottleneck. Multiple concurrent backup streams are automatically tuned to deliver faster, lower impact backups matching the backup device and network capability.

• Integrated with and adds value to HP hardware: The data protection component of AiO. A special Data Express kit for the D2D Backup System completes the solution. The basis for Data Protector Single Server Edition that is part of the StorageWorks tape drives and tape autoloaders solution. It is fully compatible with StorageWorks hardware for smaller organizations.
