HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition software is uniquely delivered as part of the HP StorageWorks tape products solutions (since April 2006). It is included with all HP StorageWorks tape drives and HP StorageWorks tape autoloaders. There is no other way to acquire this special edition of Data Protector Express. Also included with these products is the HP Data Protector Express Bare Metal Disaster Recovery option software. |

Why do I need to register Data Protector Express Single Server Edition? |

You need to register the software to get a free permanent license key. Data Protector Express Single Server Edition is delivered with an Entitlement Certificate. This Entitlement Certificate has a Registration Number that is exchanged, using a simple registration process, for the free permanent license key. The easy registration process is web based: https://webware.hp.com/welcome.asp . It is also possible to register by post, e-mail or fax.
It is recommended that the license key for Data Protector Express Single Server Edition is acquired before the software is installed so that the license key can be entered during the installation process.
It is possible to install Data Protector Express Single Server Edition in 'instant-on' mode using the embedded 60 day evaluation License Key. The permanent License Key can be added at any time during the 60 days after installation. If no permanent License Key is entered the software will stop working after 60 days.
Note: The Data Protector Express Single Server Edition license key also enables the HP Data Protector Express Bare Metal Disaster Recovery Option software.

Data Protector Express Single Server Edition has a subset of the features of Data Protector Express. The features of Data Protector Express Single Server Edition software are designed to robustly protect a single server by backup to a HP tape device. When upgraded to Data Protector Express you retain all the functionality of Data Protector Express Single Server Edition (and the Bare Metal Disaster Recovery option) as well as adding:
- The availability of options for network backup to consolidate the backup of all machines on your network and to share backup devices.
- Encrypt backups to any supported device and media.
- Unlimited D2D backup capacity extending the 36 GB D2D backup capacity of Data Protector Express Single Server Edition.
- Increased backup scheduling frequency to hourly or even each minute.
- Protect Windows notebooks and desktops with unlimited licenses for scheduled backups of Windows notebooks and desktops.
- Added performance with up to 8 data streams (Data Protector Express Single Server Edition enables 4 data streams) to be written or read from a backup device, in parallel.
- Extended tape drive support to other vendors tape products.
- Open file backup on Windows with support for Microsoft Volume Copy Shadow Service (VSS) on NTFS.
- The availability of options for online backup up of Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Once Data Protector Express Single Server Edition is upgraded to Data Protector Express options and functional extensions can be added for more protection and scalability. These include online application backup, D2Any2Any backup and recovery, network backup and multi-drive library support. Data Protector Express includes an enhanced 1 year of HP support with rights to versions.
