Entitlement to Upgrade
To upgrade to Data Protector Express 6.0 from Data Protector Express 5.0 a valid support contract is required.
There are no version upgrade part numbers for Data Protector Express 6.0. If you have a
valid support contract the upgrade to Data Protector Express 6.0 is free of charge.
If the support contract has expired, it is necessary to purchase a return to support (RTS) contract. To purchase the RTS,
the HP Contract Administrator (CA) should be contacted. Purchasing a RTS is a lower cost option than buying new Data
Protector Express 6.0 licenses.
For all users under support the free of charge upgrade to Data Protector Express 6.0 is available for 1 year from the
release of Data Protector Express 6.0. This means, an upgrade to Data Protector Express 6.0 can be provided to all
entitled users until 26 September 2012.
If you are a customer with an active support contract for Data Protector Express 3.x/4.x and did not upgrade to Data Protector Express 5.0 by September 26, 2011, then you will not be able to migrate to Data Protector Express 5.0 or 6.0 now. The only way to get the latest version in this case will be to buy the product (version 5.0 or 6.0) licenses.
Mapping your existing licenses to Data Protector Express 5.0 licenses to Data Protector Express 6.0 licenses
Data Protector Express 6.0 licenses have a one to one mapping with the existing Data Protector Express 5.0 licenses. The number of Data Protector Express 6.0 licenses required for the upgrade is based on the number of existing installed licenses of Data Protector Express 5.0. The license mapping is listed below:

Upgrading
After you have contacted your support administrator and your entitlement to Data Protector Express 6.0 has been verified you will be sent one or more media kits and an one or more Entitlement Certificates for Data Protector Express 6.0 license keys.
The following steps are recommended when upgrading to Data Protector Express 6.0
- Find a time when no jobs are scheduled to run to execute the upgrade.
- Use the Order Number(s) on the Data Protector Express 6.0 License Key Entitlement Certificate(s) to acquire the license key(s) for Data Protector Express 6.0. Store these license key(s) safely, they cannot easily be replaced.
- Back up the Data Protector Express catalog.
- Make a note of and remove the current Data Protector Express license keys.
- Perform an Upgrade Installation on the Data Protector Express Backup Server - the machine that owns the Data Protector Express catalog- using the CD-ROM in the Data Protector Express 6.0 media kit.
- During the installation enter the new Data Protector Express 6.0 license key(s).
- Once the installation is complete, configure the 'Client Upgrade Options' in the Backup Domain configuration to 'Enable automatic upgrade of clients'.
