| Q1. |
Does HP Global Reporter provide any reports out-of-the-box? |
| A1. |
Yes. In addition to providing the facility to aggregate information from multiple HP
management servers, the module also includes over 20 new canned reports. You can pick from categories
such as global storage system utilization details, global switch port utilization details, global
summaries by vendor, and more. The number of out-of-the-box reports included with this module will grow
from release to release as new reports are developed for our customers. |
|
| Q2. |
Can the new reports provided by HP Global Reporter be accessed from the same
user interface as the standard reports that are included with the base console? |
| A2. |
Yes. The global reports are accessed from a new Global Reports explorer entry in the
standard Reporter component of HP Storage Essentials Enterprise Edition. The global reports inherit all the features
of the standard out-of-the-box reports, including export to multiple formats; role-based security; and
automatic email delivery and scheduling functions. |
|
| Q3. |
Can new custom reports be developed using the rolled-up data? |
| A3. |
Yes. To satisfy your unique reporting requirements, you can leverage the database schema
views and the HP Report Designer module to develop an
unlimited number of new custom reports. |
|
| Q4. |
What database is used to collect the aggregated information? |
| A4. |
The HP management platform leverages an embedded Oracle Database to store real-time and
historical information on your multi-vendor storage infrastructure. HP Global Reporter leverages
this same database to aggregate information from HP satellite management servers and their embedded Oracle
Databases. To store global reporting data, a new global reporting schema is automatically created in the Oracle
Database of the HP management server designated as the aggregator. |
|
| Q5. |
Do I have to license the global reporting module if I have storage in multiple locations, or can a
single HP management server discover and manage storage in remote data centers? |
| A5. |
Depending on your business requirements, network architecture, and IT organization preferences,
you may not need to license HP Global Reporter. HP Storage Essentials is known for its ability to scale to
hundreds of hosts and thousands of switch ports with a single management server, and its ability to discover
and synchronize remote storage resources even over WAN connections. However, some customers need to implement
multiple instances of the HP management server to accommodate business unit or IT organization boundaries, to
overcome network limitations, or to manage extremely large SANs. Mergers and acquisitions and distributed
purchasing decisions also result in the implementation of multiple HP management server instances. HP Global
Reporter was designed to meet the needs of customers in these situations who need centralized summary information
on their distributed storage environment. |
