Overview

HP Storage Essentials enables you to view, clear, sort and filter events from all managed resources, including Applications, Hosts, Fabrics, Switches, and Storage Systems. Event information trapped includes ID, Event Source, Severity, Time, Summary Text, Element Type, Cost Implication, Probable Cause, and more. To simplify event prioritization and correlation, color-coded icons and an overlay feature enable you to superimpose events on top of your SAN topology.

Access to event management capabilities is controlled through the integrated role-based security features of Storage Essentials Manager. Event Manager can also forward events through SNMP to enterprise management frameworks, enabling you to monitor your storage events in context with other IT infrastructure events.

HP Storage Essentials summarizes all storage infrastructure events in a single, Web-based console, and provides filters that enable fast navigation and prioritization

Flexible event filtering and sorting

• Apply all event filters at once or you use them selectively to limit which events are displayed

Event journaling

• Create date/time stamped journal entries to document how you are responding to an event or what caused the event
• Communicate knowledge to streamline event management in the future

Topology overlay

• Displays color-coded event icons in the topology view over elements that have outstanding events.
• Enables quick visual analysis of the potential business impact of the event by graphically showing which applications could be affected.

Auto-delete and auto-clear options for event "aging"

• Configure amount of time that must pass before events of each severity level are automatically cleared (removed from the Event Manager display) and deleted (removed from the database).
• Option to never delete events is also provided for each severity type.

Event management preferences

• Turn on/off reminder that an event filter has been set and needs to be applied.
• Specify how many minutes must pass before events are automatically refreshed.
• Change the number of events that are displayed on a single page
• Customize which events severities are available for event filtering (i.e. never permit the filtering of Critical events).
• Customize which events severities are available for event filtering (e.g. never permit the filtering of Critical events).
• Customize which element types are available for filtering (e.g. never permit the filtering of Storage System events).

Enterprise management framework integration
