Answers

Q1. What are the major functions included in HP XP Business Copy Software?
A1. HP XP Business Copy Software includes three major functions.
1) Business Copy - creates full-volume copies or clones of source data for open systems.
2) Snapshot - creates pointer-based space-efficient snapshots of source data for open systems.
3) ShadowImage - creates full-volume copies or clones of source data for mainframe systems.
Q2. HP XP Business Copy Software can create full-volume copies and snapshots. How do I know which to use?
A2. Full-volume copies are independent copies that are the same size as the source data. The copy can be accessed without affecting the source data. Full-volume copies are most useful when performance is important or when a completely independent local copy image is required.

Snapshots only store differential data, the information that has been changed in the source. Therefore they can use much less capacity than a full-volume copy. Snapshots are often called "Copy on Write Snapshots" because when you write to the source volume, the array first writes a copy of the data that is about to be changed, and then allows the source volume to be changed. Snapshot is most useful when you need to make a large number of point-in-time copies and when performance and copy independence are not the most important considerations.

Q3. How is HP XP Business Copy Software licensed?
A3. HP XP Business Copy Software is licensed on the total used capacity of all source and copy volumes, plus the capacity of the snapshot pool volume.
