Q&A

Questions

1. Why should I deploy the 4Gb PCI-X 2.0 HBAs if the rest of my SAN infrastructure is still only 2Gb?
2. Are 4Gb PCI-X 2.0 HBAs compatible with conventional PCI and PCI-X slots?

Answers

Q1. Why should I deploy the 4Gb PCI-X 2.0 HBAs if the rest of my SAN infrastructure is still only 2Gb?
A1. While these new HBA models are 4Gb capable, they are also backward compatible with 2Gb and 1Gb HBAs, and are aggressively priced. Implementing the FC1143/FC1243 4Gb HBAs means added investment protection.
Q2. Are 4Gb PCI-X 2.0 HBAs compatible with conventional PCI and PCI-X slots?
A2. Yes, the FC1143/FC1243, are compatible with existing PCI and PCI-X slots found in conventional servers including HP ProLiant and Integrity.
