Overview

HP Integrated Archive Platform (new name for HP Reference Information Storage System, or RISS) combines world-class HP server and grid storage technology and native content indexing, search, and policy management software into a single, factory-assembled rack system that sets the standard for archiving scalability, flexibility, and performance.

HP Integrated Archive Platform is step #1 for any business that needs to build a responsive, cost-effective eDiscovery platform to avoid the court fines, legal fees, and lawsuit settlements associated with non-compliance; eliminate the need for Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino quotas and message size restrictions; and implement tiered storage to reduce storage TCO.

The next-generation architecture of HP Integrated Archive Platform intelligently distributes hundreds of terabytes of content and billions of objects across a grid of disk-based SmartCells. This enables HP Integrated Archive Platform to deliver linear store, search, and retrieval performance no matter how big your archives get. It’s like having hundreds of librarians searching at the same time for the information you need instead of one - an important differentiator in today’s fast growing email environments and litigation-happy business climate. Additional capacity and performance can be quickly and easily added with new SmartCells . Capacity, store, search, and application gateway performance can be scaled independently or in parallel to meet current and future archiving requirements.

Unlike competitive approaches, which require you to purchase email and file archiving client software, an application server, an operating system, indexing and search software, and content-addressable storage, and then consulting services to glue it all together, HP packages all the necessary hardware and software in a single, factory-integrated and tested rack system. And since it’s all backed by HP service and support, you won’t have to wonder who to call if you have a problem.

HP Integrated Archive Platform works with HP Email Archiving software and HP File Archiving software clients to ensure secure, long-term retention of Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino, and file system information. As a leader of the XAM Specification and XAM-Interface for standards-based interoperability between third party applications and content-addressable storage, HP is working with its ISV partners to add support for many more applications and data types.

eDiscovery solution providers, such as Clearwell and Attenex, can already search, extract data from, and apply their own review and production capabilities to data archived in HP Integrated Archive Platform using supported APIs.

What's new

  • Entry-level system brings archiving and litigation support to a broader market, including medium to large enterprises and remote branch offices.
  • Increased total capacity of base system rack from 2.8TB to 4.2TB (up to 7.5TB future).
  • Universal Smartcell replaces the 850GB and 1.4TB Smartcells and allows the customer to purchase the maximum capacity available while supporting the capacity limitations of previous versions.
  • Universal Smartcell employs SATA drives in a RAID-6 configuration for improved cost, availability, and performance.
  • All built-in management servers (gateway, query, store, database, etc.) are now based on new HP ProLiant DL320 G5 servers for increased performance.
  • New, separate SKUs are now available to independently tune different performance metrics to meet the unique needs of enterprise customers looking to install the platform internally, as well as service providers looking to offer hosted archiving and e-Discovery solutions. New SKUs include:
    • Store Portal Performance Upgrade
    • Query Portal Performance Upgrade
    • Expansion Capacity Performance Upgrade
    • Additional Meta Server + Router when adding Expansion Racks for more capacity

Features & Benefits

  • Highly scalable, high performance full content indexing and search - Respond to legal discoveries at a much lower cost and with much greater speed than hiring an army of lawyers or using competitive archiving solutions. High capacity, modular Smartcells can be quickly added to meet growing archive requirements, and store billions of objects on a single HP Integrated Archive Platform. The platform’s next-generation grid architecture with distributed indexing technology enables you to search these billions of objects in seconds, without the performance degradation that plagues non-grid-based solutions when archives grow in size. Complex Boolean, Fuzzy Word, and Proximity search capabilities enable you to quickly locate relevant archived information, while Save Query Criteria and Save Results features enable you to easily repeat common searches.
  • Integrated content archive that provides long-term retention of email, file and printed (scanned) data - When it comes to legal discovery, you don’t want to miss any data. And you don’t want to have to manage the complexity or suffer the cost of searching multiple archives. HP Integrated Archive Platform enables you to retain all of your data – email, files, print streams, and more – in a single, searchable archive.
  • Security, immutability and resiliency - Governance requires both physical and logical security, and HP Integrated Archive Platform delivers on both counts. The hardware components of the platform are based on customer-proven HP ProLiant server and StorageWorks storage technology, and the door to the rack has a real key. All data and Smartcells are physically mirrored for redundancy, and there is inter-platform replication option that enables archive data to be replicated from one platform to another. Data can be segregated within the platform, which is a key compliance requirement for Financial Services and Federal Government customers and managed service providers who want to host multiple customers on the same platform. The platform is also logically secure, with a builtin firewall, CRCs for all writes, audit trails for all actions, tamper protection (WORM on disk), secure access with Single Sign On for compliance/discovery personnel, data encryption, and unique digital signatures. The platform also protects the chain of custody from the moment data enters to the moment it is produced for immutability.
  • Encoded legal/governance policies - Don’t subject your internal governance procedures to human error. HP Integrated Archive Platform automates what, today, are manual processes that often fail and result in costly legal fines and penalties. Specify what archived data should be placed in Quarantine or Legal Hold. Export data to PSTs or text files for consumption by Legal Analytics and Case Presentation tools. Define retention policies that support industry-specific regulations. Authorize data destruction to eliminate “smoking guns.” Enforce Chain of Custody to verify that the data is in its original form, and has not been altered since it was archived.
  • Efficient - The Universal SmartCell enables you to buy the maximum SmartCell capacity supporting both 850GB and 1.4TB SmartCells. If upgrading previous versions of HP Integrated Archive Platform to new versions that support larger SmartCell capacities, unused storage can easily be released to match that version improving footprint density and dollars per terabyte.
  • End user search tools - HP Integrated Archive Platform indexes both the content and attributes of documents, email, and email attachments, which allows free text searching from any Web browser. The grid architecture enables this capability to easily scale without loss in performance.
  • Investment protection - HP Integrated Archive Platform maintains compatibility across SmartCell versions, enabling you to buy what you need now, and take advantage of disk technology and cost improvements in the future.
  • Easy management and support - HP Integrated Archive Platform includes all of the hardware, software, and services needed to provide a fully integrated, tamper-resistant, single instanced, archiving platform. All hardware and software components are fully supported by HP to maximize time to value and minimize cost of ownership.
  • Dramatically reduces legal discovery, corporate governance, and surveillance costs - Reduces/eliminates the risk of large fines due to lack of compliance with industry and government regulations. Data can be searched, retrieved, and offloaded to external media in a fraction of time required for competing solutions or manual operations.
