Answers

General

Q1. What integration does HP deliver for OpsMgr 2007?
A1. HP delivers three management packs that automate hardware discovery and state monitoring for HP ProLiant and Integrity servers and HP StorageWorks products within OpsMgr 2007. The HP Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 and the HP Integrity Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 include predefined groups, event processing rules and tasks and the HP StorageWorks Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 includes event processing rules and tasks, enabling IT administrators to streamline operations and ensure increased systems availability by monitoring key resources for Microsoft Windows environments and HP server and storage hardware platforms through a common OpsMgr 2007 Operator Console.
Q2. What are the benefits of installing HP management packs for OpsMgr 2007?
A2. The HP Server Management Packs for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 provide the following key benefits:
  • Simplify Microsoft Windows and HP hardware resource management via a common OpsMgr 2007 console

  • Access HP resource management tools like HP Systems Insight Manager, the HP System Management Homepage and the web interface for HP Lights-Out Management Processors from within the MOM Operator Console
Q3. How does HP Systems Insight Manager compare to Microsoft Operations Manager, and why should I use both?
A3. Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 and HP Systems Insight Manager are complementary management tools.

HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) provides hardware resource lifecycle management for HP servers, clients, printers and other standards-based devices. HP SIM collates and displays in-depth health and configuration information, group management, version control for HP system software, and remote administration via HP Lights-Out management processors. This highly extensible application can also provide advanced hardware performance, administration and vulnerability management with HP Essentials value-added software. In summary, HP Systems Insight Manager and the HP Essentials Value Packs are for organizations that are responsible for the proper configuration, timely update, security and health of hardware resources within an IT infrastructure.

Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 delivers comprehensive monitoring, performance management and analysis tools to maintain Windows operating systems and application platforms. Troubleshooting

Q1. Where do I find more troubleshooting information?
A1. The HP StorageWorks Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 Installation and User's Guide document, included in the downloadable zip file, contains a troubleshooting section. Look here for many different types of troubleshooting information.
Q2. How do I enable debugging?
A2. The "Troubleshooting" section of the HP StorageWorks Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 Installation and User's Guide document contains instructions for enabling debug, as well as providing examples of the debug information that will be provided.
Q3. I'm using the WEBES XML interface. The first time I ran the "desta mom on" command, it did not prompt me for the hostname and port number. What do I do?
A3. If you are not prompted for the hostname and port information, run the command again (note that you may need to run "desta mom off" first, depending on the version of WEBES you are using). Then, re-run the command.

Refer to the "Configuring WEBES to Send an XML event callout" section in the HP StorageWorks Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 Installation and User's Guide document for more information about this process.

Q4. The WEBES configuration "desta mom on" defaulted to port 2069 instead of 8945. What do I do?
A4. The port number just needs to be the same in both the WEBES desta mom configuration and the MOM Management Pack configuration. The "Configuring WEBES to Send an Automatic Callout" section in the HP StorageWorks Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 Installation and User's Guide document contains instructions for changing the port you are using; make sure both of the configurations are using the same port.
Q5. Is there a way to generate some test events from WEBES to verify that my system is working?
A5. Yes. On the system where you have WEBES installed, open a command prompt. Go to the directory where the eva_events.evt file is located (on Windows, this is "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packards\svctools\common\ca\examples") and run this command: 'wsea n analyze input eva_events.evt not vis'.

This should generate multiple test events. For more information, refer to the HP StorageWorks Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 Installation and User's Guide.

Q6. The OpsMgr 2007 Management Pack kit fails with error “The scripts required for this install to complete could not be run”. What do I do?
A6. Please install the SNMP Service on the OpsMgr 2007 Management Server before installing the HP StorageWorks Management Pack for OpsMgr 2007. The installation program runs a script which requires the smi2smir tool to register SNMP MIBS related to HP StorageWorks devices. The smi2smir tool can be located in the \wbem\snmp directory. The tool gets installed when you install SNMP on Windows servers.

For more information, refer to the HP StorageWorks Management Pack for Systems Center Operations Manager 2007 Installation and User's Guide.
