Overview

Integrating seamlessly into existing backup applications and processes, the HP StorageWorks 6000 Virtual Library System accelerates backup performance in complex SAN environments while improving overall reliability. Emulating popular tape libraries and tape drives, the HP 6000 Virtual Library System matches the existing data protection environment, removing the need to change backup software or monitoring policies. By emulating multiple tape drives simultaneously, more backup jobs can be done in parallel resulting in reduced backup times. Additionally, because the data resides on disk, single file restores are exceptionally fast.

The HP 6000 Virtual Library System simplifies your SAN environment by providing more virtual devices, reducing the complexity of shared storage while maintaining the manageability of a single system. The HP 6000 Virtual Library System now supports 4Gb Fibre Channel to fit into today's latest SAN environments. As your environment changes, the HP 6000 Virtual Library System adapts to it – host masking and mapping ensure that only the appropriate hosts have access to the HP 6000 Virtual Library System. As storage requirements grow, it matches the environment by scaling both capacity and performance. Hardware compression on the HP VLS6000 allows for up to twice the amount of data in the same footprint without affecting system performance.

What's new

  • New higher capacity 750GB drives provide 50% more storage
  • New hardware compression on the HP VLS6600 provides up to 105.6TB of storage without affecting performance.
  • New 6.6TB capacity kits can be mixed and matched with existing 2.5TB or 4.4TB capacity kits on VLS6000 products.
  • Support for 4Gb Fibre Channel infrastructure
  • Automigration capabilities for evaluation
  • Data de-duplication ready (de-duplication available early 2008)

Features & Benefits

  • Emulates popular tape drives and libraries: By emulating HP StorageWorks ESL E-Series and HP StorageWorks MSL tape libraries as well as HP 1/8 autoloaders, the HP StorageWorks 6000 Virtual Library system integrates seamlessly into existing backup and recovery processes and applications.
  • Certified with leading backup software packages: The HP StorageWorks 6000 Virtual Library System is certified under the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solution with leading backup applications to ensure that integration into your environment is simple.
  • Up to 600MB/s throughput: The HP 6000 Virtual Library System provides aggregate performance of over 550MB/s and single stream performance of up to 150MB/s.
  • Scales capacity and performance: Scale capacity and performance easily with the addition of capacity upgrade kits.
  • Compression: The HP 6000 Virtual Library System includes user-enabled compression allowing the effective capacity to double. Compression on the VLS6200 is via software and the VLS6600 is via hardware compression card.
  • Hot swap array drives: Hot swap SATA drives allow you to recover from a drive failure without taking down your system.
  • Redundant array power supplies and cooling: Redundant power supplies and cooling fans in the array maintain operation of the HP 6000 Virtual Library System in spite of a component failure.
  • RAID 5 or RAID 6: The HP 6000 Virtual Library System allows you to choose RAID 5 or RAID6 to provide protection for your data should a drive fail.
  • Configure to order: Have your HP 6000 Virtual Library System factory integrated into a HP rack with your other storage and server devices.
