Answers

Q1. Is the Cisco MDS 9222i Multiservice Modular Fabric Switch IP version 6 capable?
A1. The MDS 9222i Fabric Switch supports IPv6 as mandated by the U.S. Dept of Defense, Japan, and China. IPv6 support is provided for FCIP, iSCSI, and management traffic routed in-band and out-of-band.
Q2. Why should I buy this Cisco switch from HP instead of Cisco?
A2. Cisco does not sell MDS switches directly to end-users. HP provides added value through the qualification of Cisco switches within the HP storage network environment and HP worldwide service and support.
Q3. Can the MDS 9000 Storage Networking Modules be swapped from the MDS 9200 series switches to the MDS 9500 series directors?
A3. Yes. Therefore if you start with a MDS 9222i Fabric Switch and your storage network connectivity needs expand beyond its 70 port capacity you can install a director and reuse existing port modules.
Q4. Does the Cisco MDS 9222i Multiservice Modular Fabric Switch replace any products in the current HP c-series product line?
A4. Yes, the MDS 9222i is replacing the MDS 9216A and MDS 9216i Fabric Switches. The embedded FC ports on these products are 2 Gb while the embedded FC ports on the MDS 9222i are 4 Gb.
Q5. Do I need to purchase an FCIP license separately for the Cisco MDS 9222i Multiservice Modular Fabric Switch?
A5. The license to use the four embedded IP ports in the MDS 9222i is included with the switch. If a module with IP ports is added to the switch and those ports will be used for FCIP, a separate license for these additional ports will need to be purchased depending on the specific module that is added.
Q6. What is unique about the Cisco MDS 9222i Multiservice Modular Fabric Switch?
A6.

It is a semi-modular fabric switch, rather than a fixed port Fibre Channel only device and it not only has the ability to deliver multiple protocol support such 4 and 10 Gb Fibre Channel, iSCSI and FCIP, but also is a platform for fabric based intelligent applications and storage data security.

With this product there is no need to add standalone gateways, routers, bridges and encryption appliances to the SAN, the MDS 9222i delivers all of these capabilities along with end-to-end storage network management all in a single device.

Q7. What are the benefits of the I/O Accelerator (IOA) Package?
A7.

The I/O Accelerator (IOA) Package increase the speed of I/Os over MANs and WANs. As a result, the performance of disk replication solutions such as Continuous Access and Business Copy will be improved. Additional benefits are reduction of SCSI transaction latency and extension of the distance between synchronous data centers. The I/O Accelerator Package will enable resilient tape backup/restore operations up to 7500km without significant throughput degradation through Port Channels with FCIP Tape Acceleration. Lastly, the I/O Accelerator Package will improve the efficiencies of dark fiber or leased lambdas with FC compression.
