Overview

The HP StorageWorks 4/32B SAN Switch delivers excellent overall value and investment protection as the foundation for a small SAN or as an edge switch in a larger core to edge enterprise SAN. The HP StorageWorks 4/32B SAN Switch is a 4Gb B-series Fibre Channel switch and the successor to the 4/32 SAN Switch.

The 4/32B SAN Switch consumes 20 percent less power than the 4/32 SAN Switch and generates less heat so it requires less cooling—resulting in reduced Total Cost of Ownership. The 4/32B switches may be incorporated into an extensive core fabric or placed at the edge. They deliver 16, 24 or 32 high performance with Auto Sensing capability for 1,2, or 4Gbps Fibre Channel ports.

The 4/32B SAN Switch base model ships with 16 active ports. Ports can be activated in 8 port increments with the purchase of an upgrade license. Storage networking features include redundant, removable power supplies and cooling, making the switches ideal for supporting corporate infrastructure implementations. The 4/32B SAN Switch includes web management tools and hardware and software enforced zoning. The 4/32 SAN Switch Power Pack provides the SAN administrator with the necessary tools to monitor the health and performance of the network, while ensuring the highest levels of security, scalability and manageability. Power Pack software features are available pre-configured on the switch or as an upgrade.

Each switch variant has removable redundant power supplies/cooling units. These integrated power/fan units reduce overall Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) count, lower power dissipation, and reduce cooling requirements. The switch is ideal for supporting medium to large corporate infrastructure implementations.

What's new

  • Simplifies enterprise SAN deployment by combining higher edge switch port density with exceptional scalability, performance and reliability.
  • Consumes 20 percent less power, generates less heat, and requires less cooling then the 4/32 SAN Switch for improved TCO.
  • Offers removable redundant power supplies/cooling units. These integrated power/fan units reduce overall Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) count, lower power dissipation, and reduce cooling requirements.

Features and Benefits

  • High availability: Redundant, hot swappable, removable power supplies and cooling units.
  • Efficient: Ports on Demand for instant scalability and “pay-as–you-grow” value.
  • High performance: Industry leading 4Gbps performance for strategic, data-intensive applications.
  • Improved TCO: Consumes 20 percent less power, generates less heat, and requires less cooling then the 4/32 SAN Switch.
  • Adaptive: Provides 4Gbps technology with auto-sensing capabilities to recognize 1 and 2Gbps devices.
  • Ease of use: Easily integrates into installed base of B-series SANs for investment protection.
  • Value: Ports on demand provides instant scalability and “pay as you grow” value.
