Answers

Q1. What are the differences between the HP StorageWorks 4/32B SAN Switch Power Pack, 4/32B SAN switch(full) and 4/32B SAN Switch (base)?
A1. All three variants are based on the same platform. The SAN Switch 4/32B Power Pack includes the 4/32B SAN Switch (full) with 32 active ports and a full suite of software products. The 4/32B SAN Switch (full) includes a SAN Switch with 32 active ports. The 4/32B SAN Switch (base) includes a SAN Switch with 16 active ports. An optional 8 port upgrade license is available to activate ports.
Q2. What are the differences between the existing HP StorageWorks 4/32 SAN Switch and the new HP StorageWorks 4/32B SAN switch?
A2. The 4/32B SAN Switch is the successor to the existing 4/32 SAN Switch. Both switches are capable of having 32 active ports. The main difference is the 4/32B offers an improved TCO by consuming 20 percent less power, generating less heat, and requiring less cooling than the 4/32 SAN Switch.
Q3. Are the HP StorageWorks 4/32B SAN Switch and 4/32B Power Pack compatible with all other B-series based switch products?
A3. The 4/32B SAN Switch and 4/32B SAN Switch Power Pack work seamlessly with all 2Gb and 1Gb Brocade based Fibre Channel Core, Director and SAN switch products.
Q4. Do all HP StorageWorks B-series switches utilize the same OS firmware version?
A4. No. For the latest supported versions of B-series switch firmware, please refer to the SAN Design Guide: http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/san/index.html.
Q5. Does the HP StorageWorks 4/32B SAN Switch provide a 4Gbps end to end storage solution?
A5. The HP StorageWorks 4/32B SAN Switch is an important component of a true end to end 4Gb storage solution. 4Gb HBAs and 4Gb storage arrays must also be in place for a complete 4Gb solution.
Q6. If a customer wanted to add Ports on Demand or PowerPack software at a later date, what is the process?
A6. The SAN Switch 4/32B leverages the existing 8 port upgrade license and software SKUs that were initially utilized for the 4/32 SAN Switch. No changes to the SKUs have been made.
