| Q1. |
How does a customer add ports on demand? |
| A1. |
A customer must purchase a 4 port upgrade license to activate 4 additional ports. |
|
| Q2. |
Will the 4/8 SAN Switch work with the existing Fabric OS versions in my current fabrics? |
| A2. |
The new switch is compatible with all 1Gb, 2Gb, and 4Gb installed B-Series switches and directors. Most customers will not need to upgrade the Fabric OS version on the installed switches. Customers who have not upgraded Fabric OS on their installed switches for over two years might need to upgrade to a more modern version. Consult the interoperability matrix for more details. |
|
| Q3. |
Will the 4/8 SAN Switch work with B-Series Multi-protocol Routers? |
| A3. |
Yes. The 4Gb/s switch will work seamlessly with B-Series Multiprotocol Routers |
|
| Q4. |
How will I use 4 Gbit/sec Fibre Channel performance? |
| A4. |
Most customers will first utilize 4Gbit/sec Fibre Channel as Inter-Switch Links (ISLs) to increase fabric
bandwidth or increase the number of usable ports by reducing the number of ports needed for ISLs. 4Gbit/sec targets and
initiators (HBAs, tape devices, RAID systems) will become broadly available in the near future. Customers will utilize 4
Gbit/sec to reduce the time required to perform backups, and to provide a storage infrastructure for high-performance
applications (databases, OLTP, and so on). |
|
| Q5. |
What is the total aggregate bandwidth of the 4/8 SAN Switch? |
| A5. |
Fully populated with 16 ports, the switch has an aggregate bandwidth of 128Gb/s end to end. |
|
| Q6. |
Is the 4/8 SAN Switch blocking? |
| A6. |
No. The switch architecture does not block and provides full 4Gb/s performance. |

| Q7. |
What is Data Center Fabric Manager Software? |
| A7. |
HP Data Center Fabric Manager Software is a
server based network management application that enables
end-to-end management of B-series Storage Area Network (SAN)
fabric. With unique asset tracking and reporting
capabilities, Data Center Fabric Manager provides detailed
visibility into performance utilization of hardware and network
bandwidth. HP Offers a Professional and Enterprise version
of Data Center Fabric Manager. |
|
| Q8. |
Who should use HP Data Center Fabric Manager
Enterprise and Data Center fabric manager Professional? |
| A8. |
Data Center Fabric Manager Enterprise provides
end to end management across 24 SAN fabrics. It is designed for
enterprise class director based installations, FICON
environments, and fabrics leveraging routing and extensions as
well as virtualization. It provides full management of the DC
SAN Backbone Director.
Data Center Fabric Manager Professional is designed for IT
organizations that use FOS-based fabrics and want a management
solution for smaller SANs based on a single SAN fabric. |
