When should an end user consider using optical as opposed to DLT or other media?

When huge amounts of referenced data require long term storage with faster access than paper, tape or microfilm.

What is the expected archival life of the media?

Optical media has up to a 100 year archival life.

What types of media are supported with the new HP Surestore Optical 14x technology?

The 9.1 GB drive supports 512 byte/sector, 1024 byte/sector, 2048 byte/sector and 4096 byte/sector 14x media in both rewritable and WORM formats. In addition, all 1.2 GB media can be read and all 2.3 GB, 2.6 GB, 4.8 GB, 5.2 GB and 8.6 GB media can be written and read on these new 14x drives.
